Immutable Type (beta) Launch Today
Free-to-mint Genesis Drop: The Headliners Collection by Damon Peters
Immutable Type (beta)
Live Thursday, December 1, 2022
Today is the DAY! We’re launching Immutable Type in its beta form to build toward a decentralized journalism model.
Here’s the TL;DR of it:
Immutabletype.com is live. «See for yourself…click…»
AI images will be generated periodically from queries inspired by traditional news headlines
The Headliners Collection is seeding the genesis drop and include AI generated images of prompts I have chosen
The Headliners are free-to-mint, which means collectors only pay the gas fees
NFTs are minted on Ethereum
Connected wallets will gain collectors access to three views on the site: Live, Prior, Profile
Upcoming feature releases (Q1 ‘23) will include marketplace trading for collectors, NFT auctions, and editorial article minting and sales
Quantities are low for this initial offer to reward early supporters
Telegram will be its main source of community engagement. The link to join the group is here: Immutable Type Telegram Group
We’ll close 2022 with another drop of the Biggest Stories of 2022.
We’re using AI as a toy at the moment, but it will be developed into a significant tool for journalists.
What Collectors Will Need
A can-do attitude and a willingness to provide feedback
An Ethereum web3 wallet. Most will use Metamask, so download it here and get on the web3 train. It’s not easy, but it’s part of the comradery.
You’ll need a small amount of ETH for gas fees to mint. I suggest $50, which is .04 ETH, approximately.
How Can I Help?
I’m glad you asked!
Please be sure to visit the site, jump into Telegram if that suits you, but, by all means, please tell a friend. Visit Immutabletype.com and subscribe, share, and offer feedback.
Also, if you’re particularly giving, please help someone onboard to web3 and crypto. Immutable Type is a great way for newbies to experience our world within a context they are familiar with and may find comfort in exploring (news & journalism). Help them with wallet set up, funding their first ETH balance, “connecting” and signing approvals, etc.
If you’re a collector and plan to mint from The Headliners, I suggest minting 3 for any NFT you mint. For me, I like to grab three, so I may hold one, sell one, and gift one. Gifting to others is a great way for them to build their collection and to become familiar with a project. It works for me.
Man in Spacesuit Bites Dog on Mars
I’ve always been fond of the aphorism “Man bites dog” to distinguish what constitutes ‘news’. It’s clear and easy to understand why that headline is more interesting than “dog bites man”. It’s humorous in a way. It’s, also, shocking and demands attention, which is part of the problem with ‘news’. Shocking and distracting doesn’t mean the story or headline is valuable or useful. News stories demand attention, regardless value.
Journalists create context and add value for the reader. The journalist curates on our behalf, and he/she may find there to be little beyond the headline and, therefore, dispense with news as nothing beyond novelty. They have done us a service by not diverting our attention toward an unimportant stories.
I wanted to use this aphorism to set the stage for the community to distinguish between attention grabbing ‘news’ and the value enhancing service of journalism. "Man bites dog” is worth examining.
The full prompt I created was to elevate the exaggeration and increase the relevancy to web3, such as the renewed excitement of space travel. I chose the artistic movement of Japanese Superflat.
Now, my biggest concern feeding this into AI was receiving back a gruesome image. Honestly…I was REALLY REALLY concerned, because I had already decided to mint whatever the AI output from our prompts. Somehow, some merciful way, the output decided to have a cute little dog nibbling the hand of a person in a spacesuit. This could have gone so badly, but it didn’t, and I love this NFT as our first of the collection.

Let’s Build
As always, thank you for reading. This is a really exciting time, and I’m pleased with how 2023 is shaping up as we close out the year.
